Idea Napkin No. 2

ORI
A watch that does more than sense your vibe.

A little bit about me: I love being creative. I remember back in grammar school, I would draw. I would draw anything that I can put my mind to. My favorite class was always art. I grew from drawing, to designing, to digital design. I combined my love for art with computers. I spent three years of high school in a digital design program. My aspiration is opening up a business of my own one day. Technology has always been an interest of mine. Technology is only going to grow to become a bigger part of our future, and enrich our lives.

What are you offering to customers? I’m offering a device that is similar to your Fitbit and smart watch. However, it does so much more. It basically contains your life on your wrist. It’s going to use a combination of cloud storage and electromagnetic waves for data transmission. It will act like an internal smart house. You can pay for things with a touch of your wrist. You can link your bank account or credit cards to your watch. That way, you will never forget your wallet. It will have diagnostics of your health. Such as track your heart rate, or tell you when your stress levels are too high. It can also tell you if you’re dehydrated by body temperature levels using infrared waves. This can change the way your health professionals will treat you. They can upload information from this device from past health services and even identify you. This is crucial for people who are unconscious. Ori can also be linked to your cellular device. You can receive calls and texts on the watch. There will be an ear piece that you can take out of the side of the watch for private phone conversations. There will also be an option to see the person you are talking to by setting up a holographic image for a more personal contact. This can be one that is already recorded or live. The recorded holograph can lip sync your conversation. If you don’t want to hold up your wrist, you can swipe the holographic image on a platform. There is also security measures in place. In the silicone band it contains a retinal scanner. When you look away from your watch, your information will be hidden from others. If someone steals your Ori or it becomes lost, you can log into your Ori account in order to locate your device. You will be able to choose to wipe, and transfer data from the watch. Similar to McAfee's security elements. In your Ori account, you can add different apps to better suit and customize what’s best for you.

Who are you offering it to? I'm offering this product to all age ranges. This product is ideal for children to elderly.

Why do they care? Ori is designed to make life a little easier and fun. This device is made to help with work/home life, health, and retail. One of the main reasons is health. All age groups can adhere to this element. I believe optimal health equals happiness. Taking care of ourselves is important, and helps us become more productive.

What are your core competencies? I have an idea that might revolutionize the way we look at watches. I know that Fit bands and smart watches are on the rise, however, mine could possibly make cell phones and card readers obsolete. We may no longer hold a square object to our ears. Given, since some of this technology hasn’t been mastered yet, this may be decades from now. Except, the possibilities are exciting! Another core competency is the elements put into this device that makes it fun and in constant use. In the future, I believe that we mainly will be using li-fi and fiber optics. This can help with this technology coming to life.

Evaluation: I came up with an entirely new product that I found myself more passionate about. I took all of my feedback, interviews, and technology ideas to invent a more tangible idea of an invention for the future. The weak spot is getting all of the technical details worked out. For those of you who have been following along on my blog, my original product was RFIP Gloves. Radio frequency identification protection gloves. Except, with some of the feedback I received, I came to the realization that the microchips being implanted in everyone’s hand may not become mainstream.  This is a possibility that may not happen. Even though it is happening in Sweden, the United States may not accept this as a norm for the future. America is a more conservative country.

Feedback: Feedback is how I came up with this new product. Although one of my peer’s didn’t take into consideration the reason I was developing the gloves, she had an idea of a bracelet. I then thought of a disruptor in the bracelet as the security measure. I was looking at my Fitbit, when I realized I loved watches. I thought I would incorporate this RFID technology into a new watch. Health is something that I have always been passionate about. It made me think of the ways my Fitbit was helping with this. I’m also taking a technology class this semester. We were talking about smart houses and networks. I thought, an “internal” smart house would be pretty awesome! Ori means “my light” in Hebrew. It also means “head” in Latin America, which refers to intuition and destiny. I feel like I have déjà vu. Maybe I have seen this somewhere and my subconscious sucked it in. I’m not sure, but I decided to go for it.

Five main points obtained from feedback received:
1)      A good chunk of people weren’t familiar with the term, ‘RFID’. I used the term, ‘electromagnetic waves’ in order to better understand forms of data transmission.
2)      Chips implanted in your hand may not be mainstream in the future. I took into consideration that this may not fit the U.S. market.
3)      All demographics may not adhere to the technology in the first place, and my product could be obsolete. Therefore, I thought of something less invasive. Especially for the elder population.
4)      Gloves may be an annoying product to take on and off as a security measure. A disruptor in a band that can be waterproof and worn 24/7 is more efficient and convenient.

5)      Watches are something everyone can relate to. I have mixed some present technology with future technology ideas to promote a product idea everyone can be excited about.

  1. Brittany,
I think your idea is awesome! You sound so enthusiastic and passionate about it and that is something that will for sure reflect when you are pursuing this. Technology is a little out of my comfort zone as far as knowing how things work but I think you did a really great job explaining it as well as selling it in your description! Keep up the grey work!

  2. I really LOVE your idea. While I might not be the most tech savvy kid on the block, I think your idea could really be "The Next Big Thing!!!" My only concern is the security features that will be offered to ensure if personal information is kept on Ori, how will it be protected. I mean what if you lost your watch? All and all I think you could be the next Steve Jobs with an idea like that girl!!!

  3. I would absolutely love to own this watch. It is such an innovative idea. There is also a lot of money that can be made with this watch. In the future, everyone could own one and it would make things so much simpler. You also seem like you care a lot about health, which is very cool.

  4. I really like your idea! I think that this would be a great new invention and would really help people with their health. What if the watch Ori sent the information straight to your doctor and notified your doctor of any irregularities. I would definitely buy one of these. Here's a link to my blog.

  5. Hi Britt,
What an amazing idea! Your pretty much have everything it is required to open the business right now! However, I believe that the only aspect in which you should concentrate should be your target market. I think that once you have identified a unique market, you will be able to exploit it like nobody else. Price is another issue for your product and that might also have to be taken in consideration because not everyone would be able to buy it. Overall, I believe you did a great job! And you have a great idea!
    Great post!
