Top 5 World Problems

Rank-Ordering the World's Biggest Problems

‘Most serious’ to ‘Least serious’ List

1)      Climate Change and Global Warming
2)      Nuclear Bombs
3)      Terrorism
4)      Syria Refugees
5)      Deforestation

'Most-possible to implement' to 'Least-possible to implement’ List

1)      Solution: Create a safe haven in Lebanon for Syrians to gather. Lebanon's government has opened public schools for Syrian children. Help Syrian people form an army with proper military training in order to take back their country.

2)      Solution: Try to make allies with all countries. If they don't comply, and hurt allies or home country, retaliation needs to take effect. Utilize NATO assets and allies to eliminate terrorist compounds and high value targets.

3)      Solution: Global collaboration on alternate energy sources. This solution is already taking effect. However it will be a "baby step" solution. This can be a technological shift for us in the future. Electric and solar energy sources are the way of the future.

4)      Solution: Replant trees after forests removed for lumber. Limit throughput of lumber mills to preserve as many forests as possible while others regrow. Possible research into genetically modified rapid growth trees.

5)      Solution: Ensure no country known to fund or help any terrorist organization has access or the ability to develop nuclear weapons. Any country threatening to use nuclear weapons on peaceful nations should also be dealt with by the UN.

I selected Climate Change as my most serious world problem, because there can be disastrous effects in the future if solutions aren’t implemented now. If our Ozone layer keeps breaking down, soon there won’t be one. Then there will be no living things on planet Earth. The rest of the list is ranked by importance of achieving a world peace. I chose the solution to the Syrian Refugees as the most possible to implement. Our U.S Military has the resources to help the Syrian’s form an army and train them to fight for their country. Furthermore, they can gain back control and start new in their homeland. We also gain them as an ally for the future. The rest of the list is possible to implement. However, it’s ranked by the factor of time.

  1. Hey Britt, I really liked your top five biggest problems. In fact, I even had a few of the same problems on my own list! I thought your #5 of deforestation was very interesting because that never really crossed my mind when I was thinking of global issues, but I guess it must be a pretty large issue that I was completely unaware of. I really liked all of your solutions because most of them seemed very reasonable and logical. The re-planting of trees used for lumber, as well as global collaboration for alternate forms of energy seem like strategies that could both implemented easily and quickly, while making a huge positive impact in our environment. Great post, if you'd like to check out my list here is the link to my blog: http://brycesharrold2.blogspot.com/2016/01/top-5-world-problems.html

  2. Hi Britt,

I enjoyed reading your list, which was mostly different from mine with the exception of global warming. Global warming is probably the biggest problem in the world right now because it will affect the entire human race. Deforestation is working against it, and your solution to replant all removed trees will help. Problems with international affairs are also a threat to humanity. Nations must realize political differences are in the way of crucial trade agreements that will allow their countries to prosper, which I mentioned in my post. I enjoyed the read and hopefully someday these problems will be resolved.
